S for Supernatural #AtoZChallenge

S-is-forFor S, I’m going to talk about supernatural. Not the television show, although I do watch it, but supernatural elements in erotic and romance works. I’m sure we all have our favorites, but I’m going to talk about some of mine.

Since I was a child, vampires have been a huge favorite of mine. As I grew older, I read more works that had vampires in them, and there was a lot more romanticism in those stories. I became fascinated with the process of how one became a vampire, the sharing of the blood from one to another and the intimacy that the vampire shared with their “victims”. To be honest, my favorite vampires are the ones that are scary, bloodthirsty creatures. I’m not a fan of a lot of the more angst ridden works, but that’s just my opinion. 🙂

Another of my favorite supernatural elements is magic. I adore urban fantasy settings where the world I’m used to living is has an undercurrent of magic and mystery. One of my all time favorite series is The Hollows series by Kim Harrison. There’s so much going on in the world she created. Pixies, fairies, witches, demons, vampires, and werewolves all live in her world, and certainly do not coexist peacefully.

Do you have a favorite supernatural element? Or do you prefer your books to be without them?

  1. I LOVE vampires, but I’ve gotten a little burnt out on them. I need someone to do something new to get me into it again. I like shifters a lot. You should check out Kenya Wright’s Habitat Series. It’s not straight erotica but it’s Urban fantasy with magic, demons, shifters, fae, vampires, everything, and it’s really well done.

  2. I adore vampires, but only when the author sticks to the mythology (please, sparkly dudes, really?). Shifters not so much. That’s the wonderful think about books, there’s something for everyone.

    • I do not enjoy sparkling vampires. At all.

I love all kinds of supernatural creatures, but my favorite one follow the mythology of their species. 🙂
